Gander is one of few settlements in Newfoundland and Labrador that was built in the twentieth century. As such very little has been written about these towns except their nonfictional histories.

After reading many posts on social media about growing up in Gander I realized that every generation has different memories that reflect the political and economic circumstances of the time. My parents, early residents of Gander and my (older) siblings who grew up on the “Canadian ” side of the airport had/have a very different set of  my memories compared to mine which were formed in the new townsite.  I felt that the tales of potential commando raids or playing in the plane dump needed to be knitted together with my memories of exploring “old Gander” to augment the town’s unique story.

Several authors have recorded the history of Gander airport and town but little fiction has being written using it as a background. I hope that this fictional novel gives another dimension to Gander’s history and rejuvenates memories of the  locations around Gander that have either been reclaimed and/or forgotten.
